5. What’s your name?
My name’s Kris!
6. Who else has been integral to the opening of the new store?
My business partner and father Gordon, has been an immense support and help as we navigate business ownership. The store would not be what it is today without his help. We have two fantastic part time staff who support me on a daily basis not to mention numerous volunteers who have devoted time and effort over the years.
7. Do you own any cats or dogs?
Growing up overseas, I had numerous dogs and cats as part of my childhood, which partly drove our interest in owning a Bone & Biscuit.
8. What has inspired your interest in owning a Bone & Biscuit location?
Having dogs as part of your family and protection in third world countries was a necessity. As a result, experience in natural raw diets and interaction with the more feral aspects of our furbabies was a daily aspect of life. Me and my father had always talked about owning a family business together and with his life/construction/architecture background coupled with my retail management experience, Bone & Biscuit was a good fit.
9. Are there dogs that hang out around the store? What kind of toy/treat does they currently love?
We have four in store dogs. Lucy is a 6 year old Husky/Shephard/Heler mix. She is extremely calm and placid but always expects a flat beef chomper stick to snack on at the start of every shift. She will start to howl if you don’t give it to her soon enough.
Moko and Tika are brother and sister Shihtzus who are both 8 years respectively and all three have been raw fed their entire lives. Moko is the strong willed domineering brother and Tika is the submissive, doting princess. Both also love the chomper treats but won’t refuse the farm fresh treats. Their favourites! They are in store usually 2 to 3 times a week resting and observing the action.
Zena is our other store dog and she is a 9 year old English Bulldog. Zena LOVES food. She is pretty neurotic about it and so her in store experiences are closely supervised.
10. Where is the nearest dog park?
Terwillegar Dog Park…about a 5 min drive away. Look for us there every summer when we host our annual ParknPooches event!
11. What is the best advice you could give to new pet owners?
Ask questions, probe, research and NEVER get all your information from one source.
Health and wellness start with a mix of the right diet, the right environment, and the right training. People default to getting all of their information from vets as they simply are not aware of other options. Many people don’t even know that holistic vets exist! A dog or cat is a lifelong commitment and they are looking to you to provide a stable, loving home for them. Firm love, with the right nutrition (which never comes out of a bag) will take you far.
