The Bone & Biscuit Leduc Store Spotlight: Natural Pet Care And Connecting With the Community

Confidence in feeding your pet high-quality and healthy options is an important pillar at the Bone & Biscuit, but the Bone & Biscuit Leduc store owners take it to heart.

Opened in December 2015, Amanda and her husband Travis opened their Leduc location because of their love for animals and wanted to help others shop confidently for their pets, too.

“I’ve always known that I wanted to work in the animal world. As an animal lover, Travis was happy to come along for the journey. The store really is my baby, though, and he works full-time as a graphic designer. My family dogs were fed raw food when I was growing up, so I have been familiar with The Bone & Biscuit since they started in 2008. I always loved that I could shop there confidently, knowing all the products were high quality & healthy.”

True to her ideals around pet care and her love for animals, Amanda wanted her business to be a reflection of what she’d want for her own pets.

Fostering A Love For Animals in Leduc, Alberta

Amanda and Travis have always had pets in their lives. From their own cats and dogs, to even fostering animals, caring for and helping critters in need is a true passion for both of them.

“Before having kids, we also used to foster dogs, cats & other small animals for several rescue organizations. We found homes for over 40 animals. Once the kids are a bit older, we can’t wait to start fostering again!”

They’ve had a wide variety of pets over the years, some of whom you may have even seen while visiting the Bone & Biscuit Leduc location. Right now, their animal family consists of two senior dogs, Brandy, who’s about 11, and Bear, who’s 9, as well as their senior rescue cat.

“Brandy is a German Shepherd cross who has always struggled with anxiety. She has taught us so much about natural pet health and behaviour as we tried countless things to help her live a more stress-free life. Bear is a much more easy-going chihuahua cross who just wants to lay in the sun all day. We also have a senior rescue kitty named Kit-Kat. She is the sweetest, most cuddly cat in the world. We rescued her from a shelter in Northern Canada, where she was next on the euthanasia list. We are not entirely sure of her age, but we estimate she’s around 14 years old.”

Caring for all these animals hasn’t always been easy, but both Amanda and Travis love being pet owners and having pets in their lives.

“They choose to spend time with you, follow you around and listen to you. You are pretty much your pet’s entire world. You coming home from work is the best part of their day. It’s really humbling to be loved by an animal, and I think it says a lot about the kind of person you are. Plus, the cuddles are the best.”

Finding And Sharing Her Passion For Pet Health And Natural Pet Care With The Bone & Biscuit Leduc Community

For Amanda and Travis, their animals are their family, and they want to do right by their pets. That means finding the right food and care that suits their animals’ needs.

It’s been a long journey to find what works for her pets, but it was an important one to make for Amanda. From feeding her dogs a raw dog food diet to using holistic pet products, she’s locked down a routine that suits her pets and has helped to improve their overall health and wellbeing.

In her journey to find high-quality pet food and natural pet care that actually worked, Amanda dug deep into her research and found another passion, one that she wanted to share with others so that they could make informed decisions for their pets, too.

“If you’ve ever talked to me for any length of time, you know that I love to talk about pet health & wellness. However, I found that I had SO much to say; it could be overwhelming for people to take in all at once. I started thinking of ways to share the information with our customers in a bite-sized form.”

That’s when Amanda thought it would be a good idea to start her own blog and podcast, where she could share all this information with other pet owners passionate about natural pet care.

“The blog & podcast make it easy for me to direct people to specific topics & allow them to read or listen from the comfort of their homes.”

If you’re curious about the advice and knowledge that Amanda shares on her podcast, you can read her blog at holisticpetradio.ca or find the podcast by searching “Holistic Pet Radio” on both iTunes and Spotify.

Connecting With The Community Around Bone & Biscuit Leduc

Natural pet care isn’t the only reason why Amanda loves owning a Bone & Biscuit store in Leduc. In fact, the connection to the community is another huge factor in why she loves what she does.

“I love that we offer a sense of connection and community. We offer a place for pet lovers to come together and make healthy choices for their dogs & cats.”

Amanda has worked hard to build that sense of community at the Bone & Biscuit Leduc location. Wanting to be involved, they’ve started initiatives like sponsoring the waste bag dispensers around the city to help keep the community clean. They also frequently participate in events when they can to connect with the locals.

“Being involved in our community is so important to us. Not only did we open a business here, but we moved our family here. We are raising our kids here. We want Leduc to continue to be a fantastic place for them to grow up. So whenever we have the opportunity to improve our city, participate in a community event, or support a fellow business owner, we do it.”

The Bone & Biscuit Leduc Approach To Pet Care And Advice for Pet Owners

It’s no secret that we at the Bone & Biscuit believe in feeding your pets the highest quality food and ingredients possible. But for many, it’s not always an easy answer as to what the “right” option is for your dog or cat. And for the owner of the Bone & Biscuit Leduc location, this couldn’t be more true.

“There is no one size fits all approach to dog ownership. There are so many opinions about the “right” way to raise a dog, feed a dog, or train a dog. The truth is, no one knows your pet as well as you do. Trust your intuition & do what feels right.”

Finding the ideal food or care for your dog or cat isn’t always an easy battle, and you can’t always get it right on the first try.

“It’s okay to make mistakes (we all do). As Maya Angelou said, ‘When you know better, you do better.’ ”
