This week we introduce the Bone & Biscuit in Fort McMurray (Thickwood Ave) to share their experience and local insight!
1. When did this location open?
The store opened in May of 2010 with Grand Opening in July. There were SO many people and happy, happy pets! I’ll never forget them with toys, treats and all the smiles. I’ve officially owned the store since July 2011.
2. Where are you located?
414 Thickwood Blvd #2,
Fort McMurray, Alberta
T9K 1P1
In the heart of Thickwood beside Pizza Hut on busy Thickwood Blvd!
3. What are the best ways for customers to contact the store for questions and stay up to date?
4. What is your best selling product/toy right now?
Our best selling raw food is Legacy Pet Food. We’ve seen so many healthy transformations over past 7+ years!
Our best selling treat is Farm Fresh Beef or Bacon treats. I call these treats “doggie crack”, very rare for any dog to resist! All Adored Beast Apothcary products are great as well. There are so many products to help your pets ailments that can be treated naturally.
5. What’s your name?
My name is Kathy Van Ryk!
6. Who else has been integral to the opening of the new store?
My husband and I own the store and I’m working at the store daily. Our families have helped us so much and we are very fortunate to have amazing staff. They are all like family and we wouldn’t be a success without them.
7. Do you own any cats or dogs?
We have one dog TJ who is 8. He is a Norwegian Elkhound that adopted us when he showed up one day. His bright eyes and huge smile melts our hearts every day. Zoe is a 9 year old cat we adopted from the SPCA.
Kloe is 1 ½ old cat we adopted from Fort Chip Rescue Society. Her crazy personality and antics keep us laughing everyday!
Let’s not forget Tigra our store cat we adopted from the SPCA 5 years ago. No customer comes in the store without looking for her, she has such personality and lets every dog know it!
All of us enjoy bring new products home to let our pets review first-hand! Our cats love the Kitty Kottage honeysuckle toys. irRAWsistible, Legacy and Natures Premium are raw products that all our pets love and thrive on.
8. What has inspired your interest in owning a Bone & Biscuit location?
The love of pets of course! Helping people make the best decisions for their pets and helping in our community, Fort McMurray has so many amazing people and has many, many pets! Supporting small business and local producers, many of our products available are natural, healthy and locally produced right here in Alberta or are Canadian made. All of our pets are rescues and we love to support local rescue societies to give pets another chance.
9. Where is the nearest dog park?
Thickwood Dog Park is only a few blocks away. Many pets stop by for treats or ice cream after a park visit 🙂
10. What is the best advice you could give to new pet owners?
Research and work with your pet. There are SO MANY options out there!!
Thanks for the spotlight Kathy!
