This week we introduce the Spruce Grove Bone and Biscuit to share their experience and local insight! Read on to learn about the store owner as she shares her story.

1. When did this location open?

The Spruce Grove location opened August of 2011. We will be celebrating our 7 year anniversary on Aug 18 with an in-store Pawty!

4. What is your best selling product/toy right now?

We love the Tether Tug! Tether Tug is an entertaining addition to your backyard. It can help prevent behaviors such as digging, fence fighting and escaping simply by giving your dog something better to do. Tether Tug’s flexible pole allows for 360-degree spinning and rotating that keeps your dog guessing. It’s more than just a tug toy – it’s a full-body and brain workout. Your dog will love to chase the sturdy rope toy and latch on with all their might. Tether Tug’s sturdy, in-ground base is made to stand up to even the toughest tuggers.

5. What’s your name?

Carmen Thomas, I am the store owner. Denine Schellenberger is my store manager.

6. Who else has been integral to the opening of the new store?

My Mom Val was integral in the initial operations when I first opened.  Customers still ask for her when they come in.

7. Do you own any cats or dogs?

I have two dogs.  Oliver is a Shepard cross and Willow is a Lab cross.

Oliver is 9 and Willow is 11. Oliver is a crazy go lucky goofy dog and Willow is a very calm quiet dog.  Both of my dogs are adopted from Second Chance Animal Rescue.

8. What has inspired your interest in owning a Bone & Biscuit location?

When I adopted my first dog Willow I was searching Spruce Grove and Stony Plain for a healthy all natural store to purchase food and treats from.  I ended up having to drive to the city and stumbled upon a Bone and Biscuit store. I soon became a loyal customer and fell in love with the concept of an all natural pet food and supply store.  I decided to take the plunge and open a Bone and Biscuit in Spruce Grove. We have been open for almost 7 years and still going strong! We have a very loyal following and we are thankful for our amazing customers.

9. Oliver and Willow hit the jackpot now that you run a specialty pet supply store! What kind of toy/treat do they currently love?

Willow and Oliver are on the Raw food diet and love raw bones on a hot day.  My 5-year-old daughter loves to pick out our bright and fun bakery cookies to give our pups as treats!

10. Where is the nearest dog park?

Cpl. Jim Galloway Memorial Off-Leash Area

41 Century Close, Spruce Grove, AB T7X 3B3

11. What is the best advice you could give to new pet owners?

Do your research and read ingredient panels on the food you are feeding your animals.  Add fresh food to your pets diet and supplement with raw bones and healthy treats. You and your pets are what you eat!!

Thanks for the spotlight Carmen!
