This week we introduce the Bone & Biscuit in Griesbach Village, Edmonton to share their experience and local insight! This is a family owned and operated pet store that just opened in 2018. Kyle and April have a Border Collie (Bender) that you’ll likely see hanging out around the store!
1. When did this location open?
The store opened on February 2nd 2018, we’ve had a quiet opening but we’ll be looking to make a splash and have a Grand Opening in May or June when there is warmer weather and people can walk over and bring their furry friends. ?
2. Where are you located?
We are located at 97th Street and 137th Avenue in the NEW Griesbach Village Square.
Our suite is located right beside the Tim Hortons and behind the Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen.
3. What are the best ways for customers to contact the store for questions and stay up to date?
4. What is your best selling product/toy right now?
So far our Bakery is extremely popular, the Bosco and Roxys cookies and brownies are a big hit with everyone.
The Aussie Naturals crinkle toys are quite popular as well; for their unique look and texture.
5. What’s your name?
Kyle Sagan and April Hejnar, Store Owners and Managers.
6. Who else has been integral to the opening of the new store?
This is a family owned and operated store. The majority of the time you will see me (Kyle) at the store, April and my father Ken will be part time. We couldn’t have been here without the support of our family and friends.
7. Do you own any cats or dogs?
We currently have one dog named Bender. He is a border collie mix that we adopted from the Edmonton Humane Society around 12 years ago. He is very nice to everyone and likes when someone comes in the store and give him a scritch. He is friendly to other dogs, but just doesn’t have the time of day for them as he is more interested in the owners.
8. What has inspired your interest in owning a Bone & Biscuit location?
Both of us have been dog and cat lovers our entire lives. April actually worked in a vet clinic here in on the northside of Edmonton for many years and has always wanted to help animals in need. Myself (Kyle) adopted a beautiful border collie named Echo from the Humane Society in 2005 which was his first pet due to allergies as a kid. When opportunity arose to look for new work, we gravitated towards the pet industry and when we started doing some research the Bone & Biscuit felt like the perfect fit. Unfortunately we lost Echo due to cancer during the process of us getting the store up and running, which has only inspired us even more to help animals live longer and healthier lives. Now we get to see and help dog and cat owners make better, healthier choices for their furry family and friends.
9. Bender hit the jackpot now that you run a specialty pet supply store! What kind of toy/treat does Bender currently love?
Bender loves his JW green ball but needs a new one now as the old one is just about met its final days. He is troubled to decide between a new ball from JW or the air ball from West Paws.
He just got a new bed from P.L.A.Y which he naps on during his long day shifts of receiving pets and treats. He is a muncher of all treats but is currently enjoying the Trail Blazin Bitz from FeelGood Treats as well as the Bacon stick treats from Farm Fresh YUMMMY!!
10. Where is the nearest dog park?
Grand Trunk Dog Park is our closest dog park and has recently just had a new fence installed plus they added a small dog only area.
Here is the dog park Facebook Page: facebook.com/EdmontonGrandTrunkDogPark
11. What is the best advice you could give to new pet owners?
Feed your pets the best food you can; they are your best friends! We all want them to have long healthy, happy lives. You’ll get back what you give to them many times over in love and joy.
Thanks for the spotlight Kyle & April!

Kyle is awesome!!!! He helped our dog Rayna with her transition to raw food and she is now super healthy and active. Whenever we go in he’s super friendly and always remembers us. Amazing customer service at this store. We are getting a new puppy soon and of course I had a million questions and he was able to help me out and answer all of them.

Kyle and April helped me through the journey of getting my senior dog, Moo, onto a healthy path through food and CBD oil after her knee surgery. We tried raw, cooked raw, kibble, wet….. and finally got her eating better food and feeling better.
They also humor my love of Halloween with holiday themed treats and toys (bloody knife makes me laugh at least twice a day). Thank you!
