4. What’s your name?

Wendy Piper Kulak and Karen Charland. We are sisters.

Wendy & Karen with their dogs.

5. Why are you passionate about pet care?

We have seen firsthand how good quality food can help the health of pets. We have helped pet parents grow their knowledge of reading labels and recognize what is good for their pet’s health. We have seen how diet can relate to sensitivities and helped find foods that relieve those sensitivities. Every success story is why we are passionate.

6. How do you stay involved in the local pet community?

We are members of various local dog-related Facebook pages to stay updated on the needs of the City. We’ve sponsored a Humane Animal Rescue Team (HART) sanctuary dog named Molson for a number of years. Sanctuary dogs are high need dogs that may require extra medical or behavioural care that makes them harder to adopt.

Our Summerside location has been a drop off location for Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS). And we’ve organize yearly Santa photo shoots in the store to help raise money for SCARS, HART, and Zoe’s rescue.

Wendy and her 2 dogs Bailey and Ella have attended agility and rally obedience classes around the city for some bonding and fun.

7. What’s your experience been like owning Bone & Biscuit Summerside?

We have really enjoyed being part of the community of Summerside. Developing relationships with our customers. Enjoying their successes with their pets, and unfortunately sometimes crying with them when their loved pet crosses over.

All of our customers have become extended friends and family. This is an industry where everyone wants what’s best for their pet and we are honoured to help give them what they are looking for.

8. Why did you decide to own a second Bone & Biscuit location?

The west end is a growing area, but pet retail is limited. We both live in the area and are excited to work with the community to become the go-to spot for pets.

This is our neighbourhood. These are our neighbours. We couldn’t pass up serving the pet parents in our own backyard.

9. Who else has been integral to the opening of the new store?

We have some rock star employees from our Summerside location who will be helping us work the store and share their knowledge to our customers.

The store is undergoing renovations, new store pictures coming soon!

10. Will you have any pet employees?

Karen’s 17-year-old Apple head long hair chihuahua will come to the store with her. His job will be to nap lots and occasionally bark at the wall.

11. What makes you the most excited about your new store location?

It’s our neighbourhood! We have lived here for decades.

12. Where is the nearest dog park?

Laurier dog park.

Thanks for the spotlight, Wendy and Karen!

  • Congrats and welcome !!
Our little pug enjoys her “NRG – The Raw One (dehydrated) food, and “Smack” (raw dehydrated food) as treats, any chance you might be carrying these items on your shelves ?
At the “Hamptons” location do you take donations of e.g. blankets, towels, leases, food, etc for animal shelters e.g. SCARS, HART, etc. Again, congrats and wishing you folks much success, stay safe….?
