6. Who else has been integral to the opening of the new store?
The two of us started the store 5 years ago and as we have grown over the years we have added some key staff members in Karen and Tracy. Together we work as a team to be the best source of information possible and build a community of like-minded pet owners.

7. Do you own any cats or dogs?
All together we have 12 “staff dogs” although the two that everyone knows are our rescue bullies, Bauer and Hector.

Bauer can’t resist the dog treats from the Bone & Biscuit bakery!

8. What has inspired your interest in owning a Bone & Biscuit location?
Andrea has over 19 years experience with raw feeding and learning the holistic approach to animal wellness. She embarked on that journey when her heart dog, a Wheaten Terrier named Rocky, became ill with inflammatory bowel disease. The conventional system failed Rocky and, through an exceptional journey of luck and determination, he was able to be healed through nutrition, homeopathy, natural alternatives and love.

Jennifer got her dog, Bauer through the Burnaby SPCA and, similarly to Andrea’s story, the conventional vet system was not much help in his battle against “allergies” and skin disease. When Jen met Andrea and made the change to a more holistic approach, Bauer got well and is the amazing specimen you see in the store today – the picture of Wellness!

The healing continued when Jen decided to foster a dying pit bull puppy with no name…he came to her with pneumonia, kennel cough, parasites and the weakest immune system we had ever seen. A number of veterinarians in the community were unable to help and we were given the sympathetic “at least he knew love” speech. Instead of extending his days through the use of harsh drugs and medication that made him feel worse, we chose to do our best to make him more comfortable and work on the base of his issues, his immune system. With a LOT of love, patience and an all natural approach, we are pleased to say Hector is the Prince of the Bone and Biscuit Cloverdale where he currently spends most of his week lapping up the customers’ attention and encouraging them to throw the ball (again and again and again) for him!

9. Hector hit the jackpot now that you run a specialty pet supply store! What kind of toy/treat does Hector currently love?
Hector loves anything in the shape of a ball! His current favourite is the new Emoji balls…they squeak for DAYS!

10. What is the best advice you could give to new pet owners?
To look at the whole package…wellness comes from building a strong house with nutrition is the foundation of that house. You have to pay attention to developing a strong immune system to keep that house in tip top shape. Deficiencies don’t show up over night, and when they do it is harder to get back to wellness. The best approach is to take proactive and functional steps towards long term health, longevity and quality of life!

Thanks, Andrea and Jennifer!
